The first full vent set arrived just in time for the Rougham event in 2009. We were not fully up to speed with switching spar sets at that stage and so the four wrap spars were a bit too heavy. We eventually settled on the green race spars being the best option.

The second set of mid vent kites arrived in 2018 and they have been the kite of choice before stepping up to the Revolution RSS sail which has no mesh but still has good flight characteristics.

Jørgen visited London in July 2010 and came to Blackheath on 18th July to see the vented design in action.

Design development

In 2008/2009 Jørgen prepared two initial designs for vented sails. We asked him to do a design with two vents which was then fabricated as a set of eight. In 2018 a variation with a single vent was fabricated, again in a set of eight.

Flights of the newly made sails in the 2008/9 design.

Blackheath 5th February 2023.

The stacked sails were reversed in order and flown 5th February 2023. This proved to be a more comfortable and stable option. Martin Linford was the flier.

Taking my own advice the shutter speed for these images was much faster than I have been using previously, set at 1/500sec. Some images from the session were still not sharp!
