It was a two day event and in the preceding days the weather forecasts looked unpromising with indications of rain and high winds. We arrived at Aberdyfi after an overnight stay in Ludlow which involved a culinary event! On Friday, early evening, we did make a brief visit to the beach.

It was a two day event and in the preceding days the weather forecasts looked unpromising with indications of rain and high winds. We arrived at Aberdyfi after an overnight stay in Ludlow which involved a culinary event! On Friday, early evening, we did make a brief visit to the beach.
We had wondered whether to take all the kit onto the beach but on Saturday morning we arrived at the village hall and loaded everything on to the Quad trailer! The prospects looked good and on arriving at the beach we quickly set about making a sand anchor and building the JMH Eight Diamonds kite. It was launched quite quickly, shortly before 10:00am and some initial photos were taken...

After the initial launch before 10:00am it took a while to feel confident that the kite was flying ok and we did correct a bridle line to the top right panel while the kite remained in flight from the bridle point.
In some of the earlier images of the day it did look as it the curvature of the top horizontal spare was somewhat greater than in the other horizontal spars.
The drooping bridle line was corrected and must then be more supportive of the panel but there may also be an issue with the horizontal spar.

Shortly after midday the 1992 Parafoil was launched and flown alongside the Eight Diamonds.
The kite was quite a handful in the c16mph breeze so it was not a long session as we did not have another ground anchor.

At about 2:00pm Ashley launched a Revolution RSS Sail and occasionally flew close to the JMH kite.

The weather remained benign, if windy, and the Eight Diamonds kite stayed in the air. Shortly before 4:00pm the kite was brought down and my erroneous decision to bunch the bridle lines close to the kite resulted in a a couple of broken spars and torn sail fabric. Repairs will be undertaken in due course...
A fish and chip dinner at the yacht club followed thanks to the organisers Aberdyfi Kite Flyers Group - Red Dragon Kites and the local Council.
